FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Can Ecotargets be thrown, like clay pigeons?
No! Our targets are designed to stand up on their own. Their intended use is as a stationary target for rifles, handguns, bb guns, airsoft and even slingshots.
Why do some of my targets break when i try to remove them from the mold?
Breaking ecotargets while de-molding is usually caused by the mold not being allowed to warm at room temperature for 3-4 minutes first. Another culprit can be dirty molds. If the mold had sediment from the previous session built up in it, it can make the targets stick and crack.
How long will ecotargets last?
The length a target remains shootable is dependent on the weather. Targets will remain shootable for about an hour at room temperature, 15- 20 minutes on an 85 degree day.( See the video at the bottom of the instructions page.)
How can I extend the life of a frozen ecotarget?
The best way to make ice last on a warm day is to make a mixture of ice and sawdust, known as pykrete. The formula is at the bottom of this page.
Are ecotarget molds dishwasher safe?
Yes. If you are going to use the ice from an ecotarget mold in food form, we recommend washing it first. If you notice a white chalky or rusty build-up on the mold cavities, washing them will make target removal easier.
Can I mold targets out of other material?
Absolutely. We invented Ecotarget Molds to be used with ice, but we have used many other materials. The advantages of using ice are:
1. Spectacular shattering effect
2. Cheap to produce
3. Environmentaly safe
4. No clean up.
Are Ecotargets safe to shoot?
There is inherent risk when shooting any weapon. Always wear safety glasses when shooting anything. Having said that, the small pieces of ice that a shattering ecotarget produce , are quite light. These lightweight pieces are unlikely to cause any damage. Still, by staying a safe distance away from a target, you can minimize the risk. It is solely the shooters responsibility to shoot safely.
Did Ecotarget, LLC invent using ice for targets?
Of course not. People have been shooting everything under the sun for years. We just came up with a way for you to make your own, free standing targets that produce a very satisfying "shatter" when shot!
What can I do to prevent my targets from sticking together after I make them.
The simplest thing to do is don't let them touch when placing them back in the freezer for storage for about 15 minutes. After the thin layer of moisture that formed on the target at room temp re-freezes, they wont stick anymore. We realize this isn't always possible. You can reduce sticking by minimizing the time a frozen target spends above 32 degrees. Return them to the freezer as soon as possible.

Pykrete is simply 14% sawdust and 86% water, by weight, frozen. Ecotargets made out of Pykrete won't shatter as well, but last a lot longer than ordinary ice.
